De Republiek der Seychellen is een archipel van ongeveer 115 kleine tot zeer kleine eilanden, die iets ten zuiden van de Evenaar in de Indische Oceaan ligt. De voornamelijk Creoolse bevolking bestaat uit ongeveer 81.500 mensen. Hun taal is het Seychellois, een op het Frans gebaseerd Creools. De hoofdstad is Victoria, met 30.000 inwoners wel de kleinste hoofdstad ter wereld genoemd.
De natuur is overweldigend mooi. De eilanden zijn dichtbebost, gebouwen zijn temidden van het groen nauwelijks te zien, want geen bouwwerk mag hoger zijn dan een palmboom, de lucht is vaak stralend blauw, de temperatuur uiterst aangenaam, de palmenstranden behoren tot de mooiste van de wereld en de zee is diepblauw, met een oneindige variatie aan vissoorten en koraal en van vervuiling is absoluut geen sprake. De Seychellen benaderen het dichtst het beeld dat men van een tropisch eilandparadijs maar kan hebben.

Thomas Cook has issued its Seychelles country guide as part of its collection of traveller guides collection set.
It was Katerina Roberts who had been commissioned to update the guide, while Eric Roberts personally undertook the photography side of the update. “The updated guide is very informative and brings out many of the niche activities of Seychelles,” said Seychelles Tourism Board chief executive Alain St Ange after he had received a copy of the guide.
The 160-page guide dedicated to Seychelles covers in a lot of details the different islands of the Seychelles with the available accommodation establishments. It also covers the country’s national parks, best beaches, and the walks and drives possibility among others.
“Such a traveller guide is important for Seychelles. We are a unique tourism destination with both mid-ocean granitic islands and flat coral ones and the more our potential visitors know about the islands, the more informative a decision they will make on their choice of island for their holidays,” added Mr St Ange. - Seychelles Nation
